America Doesn’t have a Gun problem we have a sin problem

My heart is grieving with the families of the 19 children that were murdered by a tormented and confused young man. This is horrific and evil and as a church family we have been praying for mercy and peace for the families left behind to somehow now deal with the pain.

And as usual, this tragedy is being used by many to push unhealthy political narratives.

MAKING THIS SHOOTING A GUN ISSUE IS TO IGNORE THE ACTUAL ISSUES.

As you look into this man’s life, you see that he was a tangled web of confusion that is brought on by a culture that rejects God and His truth.

The challenge is that instead of us as a nation taking responsibility for what is truly causing this evil we don’t want to deal with our sins, perversions and depravity, instead we look for something or someone else to blame.

America has pushed God out of the conversation, has pushed fathers out of the homes, and welcomed in to the homes and conversations a life of sin and confusion which torments people and leaves no hope.

Many are saying, “I’m tired of praying, we need to do something.” Well, I agree, but “doing something” means going after the root issues.

Blaming the guns for violence is like blaming the hammer for hitting your finger when you are swinging the hammer at the nail you’re holding and you miss and hit yourself. It might feel good to yell and throw the hammer but that’s not going to solve anything.

The root issue is sin. There are no laws that can deal with this problem of sin—only grace can. Only Jesus can heal this part of our nation.

So, truly, preaching the Gospel is the primary solution to gun violence.

The primary solution in this case is not political activism, but churches boldly preaching the truth.

We must confront this backsliden culture with the only true solution to their pain, confusion and brokenness which is Jesus!

For the reasons above is why we as @awakenchurchsd @awakenchurchslc engage so boldly in our cities to speak out against the evil that is attempting to rob the life and innocence of our children.

Pastors and believers alike must take responsibility for the soul of our nation once again and rescue it with the Gospel.
