COMMITMENT NEEDS A COMEBACK!
Faithfulness and commitment are at a premium in our generation. It seems like we're afraid to commit to much of anything beyond a week or two. There is a general feeling that we don't want to be "tied down" to something. Or we think we'll miss something better if we commit to something.
Withholding commitment will destroy your life.
But choosing to withhold commitment is one of the most destructive ways to live. Recently I was reading one of many great verses that talk about this topic.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. (Proverbs 11:3 NIV)
Words like, "duplicity" and "double minded" are some of the ways the Bible describe this issue of failing to focus in and faithfully commit to something for the long haul. Obviously we must first commit to our relationship with God in this way. But its easy to also see that nothing can thrive without commitment and faithfulness. Or like this verse says, "Duplicity will destroy." Think about it. Your friendships can't thrive without commitment, your marriage won't last without faithfully committing, the health of your body won't last, your career won't thrive without commitment and faithfulness.
Nothing can thrive outside of faithfulness.
When we are constantly changing our mind about what really matters - it will destroy us. Consider a tree, if it is constantly planted and uprooted over and over, it won't survive and it definitely won't thrive. We are destroyed when we live an inconsistent life. We often miss out on the full benefits of our work and relationships because the blessing of what you're doing comes after consistent and faithful commitment and investment into it. Fruit follows faithfulness.
It's time to commit! If you've had a hard time committing because you don't want to miss out, I hope you'll see that you'll really miss out on the full purpose God has for you unless you fully commit. It's time to faithfully commit to build what you've been given and trust God with your future.
