Just a Story Away
You know that neighbor in your community that you can tell is going through a tough time? They're just a story away from a different life. You know that co-worker that is suffering from depression? They're a story away from a new life. You know that friend who keeps looking for love in all the wrong places? One story could change everything.If we look at John 4, you'll see what I mean. Jesus begins a conversation with a women who is hurting and broken at a well. She's been looking for love, and keeps hitting dead-end roads, but Jesus offers her something that will satisfy her heart.
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” (John 4:13-15)
What a heart-wrenching cry from the heart of this women, "Sir, give me this water." But, for any one reading this who has encountered Jesus like this women, we understand that cry. We've been there when we realized, nothing in this life can satisfy the thirst of my soul, and in a moment of faith we reach out and find a never-ending river of grace that floods over us as we experience the forgiveness and mercy that Jesus provides.But, the story doesn't end with this women. And the reason I began this blog was to remind you of the second half of this women's story. Let's read a few more verses from John 4
“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him... Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers. They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” (John 4:29-30,39-42)
What a finally to her story. It says, "Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony," And what is her "testimony," it's the story of how she encounter's the love of Jesus. They believed because of her story. Her friends, family and community were just a story away from a better life, a fulfilled life, a life fully satisfied.
Who needs your story?

I'm not just talking about telling them that you go to church (which is great), but I'm asking if you've shown them how to get a drink of that water that makes them never have to thirst again?
