Pastors, Your Church Will Follow Like You Lead.
Encouragement for Pastors:
No doubt, these are uniquely difficult times. But, for Such a time as this, is why God has placed you to oversee, care for and lead the church. I want to encourage you about some experiences or stats you might see related to church attendance or engagement as you re-launch your church.
The negative data about people not Re-engaging in church is coming from people not being led with courageous faith in difficult times.
If you stand and boldly lead your church, they will Follow at a greater level than you’d expect.
Our church family Awaken Church (numbers) have been the same or more than before Covid. In general, the Return attendance of churches is largely impacted by how the pastor leads their church and not about how good or bad the pandemic is or the political climate.
If the pastor is timid, passive and dancing around in uncertainty than the people will cautiously return, if ever. This is why my church has been returning in such strength! Because we have such faith filled pastors in Jurgen & Leanne Matthesius. They do not allow the heaviness of the moment to cause them to step back and bow in fear to the culture. And the fruit and strength of great leaders is their team, who I want to honor as well because each of these campus pastor have been leading boldly: Dr. Matt & Mikala Hubbard, Jon & Becky Heinrichs, Dr Mike & Katy Yeager, Michael & Lisa Hundley and Vince & Bekah Craig.
God’s strong and glorious church will will respond in kind to the shepherd over them.
So, pastor, if you’re seeing the great return that we’re seeing that’s awesome! If on the other hand you’re discouraged by the poor response of your church, take the time to lean into the Holy Spirit for boldness and wisdom to consider if you’ve taken too passive and timid approach. Then resolved to lead from the conviction of God’s Word of the essential nature of The Church!
