7 Biblical Principles on Parenting

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

Like my mom has said to many other parents over the years, “Parenting isn’t for the faint of heart.” And while parenting is beautiful and rewarding, it is true that it can also be very difficult and trying of our patience. Having said that, oftentimes, some of the biggest challenges we face in parenting is often the lack of understanding of how The Bible instructs us as parents. Yes, kids can respond uniquely or differently to us as parents, but in general, children will respond incredibly well when we lead and guide them the way God intended.

Since God is the creator and designer of us, then it would be expected that we should go to God as our primary source on raising and developing these incredible gifts that we’ve been entrusted with. That’s why I wrote and published this new book and online course to help dig out the parenting gold that is in the Bible. (View Online Book & Course)

I’ve read and appreciate the many books on parenting that I’ve gleaned from over the years and I will continue to do that, but first, we want to lean into what The Bible says on the topic. As a child, I was privileged to have been raised by parents who loved God fully, loved each other passionately, and loved me unconditionally. How did they do that? By living and parenting me according to God’s Word.

The Seven Biblical Principles that I write about in this book are:

  1. Care for Your Children

  2. Provide for your children

  3. Teach and Guide Your Children

  4. Correct and Develop Your Children

  5. Show Your Children Jesus

  6. Empower and Release Your Children

  7. Bless Your Children

This book is a solid foundation to apply for day to day parenting. I really appreciate the practical steps that lead up to training and raising champions in the faith. This book is less about particular methods of training and more about the whys of solid biblical training. Such an encouragement, reminder and help to stay on track.
