I think of humility as living your life from the perspective that you don't have it all together and that you are relying ultimately on God for your strength. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (James 4:10 NIV)
Every time I read this verse I am both challenged and encouraged. I'm challenged by the call and command to humble myself before the Lord. It's a challenge because my pride and self-reliance can often get in the way of really leaning in and trusting God and His ways. (I know you don't have that problem, but I do!)I'm also encouraged by this verse because of the incredible promise attached to this call to humility. God's Word gives us a promise that if we focus on humbling than He'll focus on lifting. God commits to partner with us when we walk in humility. How true and how difficult this often is but I can say confidently that this has always been true in my life. The more I focus on "getting what I want or getting my way" the harder things are, but when I make that shift to trusting God and walking humbly before Him then God begins to work and provide in ways that I could never make happen.Lets commit ourselves again today to not walk in arrogant self-sufficiency but to humbly submit all we are to Him and His ways.
